I’m A big One Piece fan (I should read the newest chapters, I didn’t read it like 4 months ago). I started One Piece at age 15 because I wanted to know how strong was Luffy and if he was strong enough to beat my Idol Goku from Dragon Ball (yes, I was foolish), but I discovered something that will bring joy to my life till this day. I like to talk about One Piece, I like to write about One Piece. I’m ONE PIECE !!!! And this post where I will try to recommend this great manga to you and why this is the best time to start the story.
What is One Piece about?
One Piece is about 17-year-old boy Luffy, who wants to find the most famous treasure, One Piece from pirate king Gold Roger, who left his greatest treasure out there in the vast sea. During his journey, he will form his crew Straw Hat Pirates and with his crew, he will explore lots of interesting islands and fight other pirates and Marines. Is a story about adventure, a friend’s ship, good and evil, and dreams, but the author of One Piece, Eichiro Oda isn’t afraid to explore deeper and dark themes, like slavery, racism, and genocide. Who would say that Anime that looks like this can be this deep?
Characters
Oda draws every major or side character in a unique way. If you see some character in the early chapters and he somehow reappears 300 chapters later, you will not know his name probably, but you will know thanks to his unique character, that he appears at the start of the story and his storyline will appear in your mind. Another reason why characters are so unique is their persona. Every character that appears in the plot, has some unique personality (basically they had bad habits and good habits like Real people), that you will remember and you can understand their actions. For example, Luffy is the simple head who takes action before thinking and he loves to eat, especially meat. Or there is this guy, who looks like a balloon and he wants to steal every shadow in the world to make his shadow army (very basic summary).
Worldbuilding
As I said One Piece worlds is massive but interesting. From Cold islands covered in snow, or Half island covered in ice and the other half covered in magma, or this island called Water 7 that Oda take inspiration from Venice in Italy. Every place in One Piece looks unique and most importantly, Alive. Different people and cultures are the reasons that make the world of One Piece so unique. You can feel that even before the main crew arrives, the place has a history, and even after the main crew will leave the place. You will know that the place will continue living.
Plot
The main carry of One Piece is the plot. Like I said at the beginning. One Piece isn’t afraid to explore a much darker theme than the power of friends ship and that’s the best thing I love about One Piece (Also the fore shadowing OMG). How Luffy or the One Piece World of One Piece will deal with slavery for example is such an interesting and thrilling thing to watch. Most of the plots and problems of One Piece World can be found in history books and is such an interesting thing in Anime I have ever seen. Yes, there are lots of anime, that are about dark themes, but Oda will take 3 themes and put them into the story without ruining the ongoing story and he has been doing the same thing for over 20 years. That’s why I love One Piece. Story that explores so many problems in human history along with Luffy who wants to become a pirate king and that is why I think you should give One Piece a chance. (I recommend sticking to the show until Arlong Park, where you will see Oda’s beauty of storytelling and character development in ep 1-50 so is not that bad. \ If you don’t like the show after Arlong Park you can drop it)
Why start now?
Why is this the best start for you? Basically, One piece story is in final part of the story and there is still lots of questions to answer. Yes it will take 3-4 years, but if you caught up to the latest incidents. You will join the waiting room like me and milions of others. And the best part is if something new will be revealed, you can see the storm in the community, The theories that you can read about the news is the best thing in every community. To talk about what you likes, will bring joy to your life and One piece is doing it very good.
I have much more things to talk about One piece, but I think this is a good summary of the One Piece and why you should give it a chance.
